Whatever its source, the disease had some baffling quirks. Not all the patients exhabited all the main symptoms. People who suffered flash burns were protected, to a considerable extent, from radiation sickness. Those who has lain quietly for days or even hours after the bombing were much less liable to get sick than those who had been active. Gray hair seldom fell out. And, as if nature were protecting man againse his own ingenuity, the reproductive processes were affected for a time; men became sterile, women had miscarriages, menstruation stopped." (77-78)

The paragraph can be divided at the beginning of "Whatever...", because the first top part of the paragraph talks about the gamma rays and blood disease. In when the sentence starts at, "Whatever" it starts talking about the symtoms of the disease.
This can divide by three small paragraphs. The first one is about the plasma( As... effective). The second is about the source( Since the blood....down). The last is abot the affection( Whatever...stopped).
